The pressure to be what others need you to be, instead who you are called by God to be, grows with every level of notoriety.
The world is full of desperate people lost in some sort of darkness, and anybody who lives at any level of hope becomes a beacon of light to the hurting and hungry.
But the hopeful must be a resource whereby they direct the helpless to source of their light not become the source. Otherwise we create expectations that only God can fulfill and we ultimately crumble under pressure to perform.
In other words, the goal of all ministry is to introduce hungry people to the Answer not be the answer. Being God to people is a hard act to follow and it deceives the followers while destroying the leader.
If people don't meet Jesus they will find an idol to follow. It may be science, medicine, politics, music, sports, education, etc but they always will put their faith in something. And when their idol doesn't deliver them they will crucify them. Gods are not allowed to have flaws or weaknesses, only people are.
So day after day the court sits judging the idols that failed the masses and thus begins the search for a new, flawless idol.
Yet this truth remains; Jesus is the light of the world, the hope of the nations, the healer of the broken and they that hope in Him will not be disappointed. ---Kris Vallotton
